Some of the most memorable teams in history are twosomes: Batman and Robin, Timon and Pumbaa, Pinky and The Brain, Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo… But there’s a new tag team in town: the awesome twosome taking over South Africa’s tattoo industry are the gents of Black and White Tattoo Studio.

Tiplo and Dave met while working as artists at a tattoo studio in Johannesburg, and like all great bromances, they made an immediate connection that eventually resulted in Black and White Tattoo Studios. Launched in October 2012, the tattoo studio quickly became the city’s go-to spot for local and international ink lovers. Some of their more well-known clients include Benni McCarthy, Morale, Rashid Kay, Musa Sukwene, Zoleka Mandela, Lloyd Cele and Tall A$ Mo. 

With 20+ years of experience between them, the artists both undertake all types of tattoos, from simple Chinese symbols to challenging masterpieces. The shop has very exacting hygiene standards, a must in this industry. They use modern machines, bright colour inks, and new sterilised needles. Whether you’re a newbie or so tatted up you barely have any visible skin on your body, Tiplo and Dave are the ink masters to see. Their doors are always open to everyone: the only colour they see is on tattoos.
